We live in Bulbancha. New Orleans is known to many as the “Crescent City” or “The Big Easy,” but before the French colonized and renamed this land, New Orleans was known as Bulbancha, a Choctaw word meaning “place of many languages.”
A portion of sales from every Bulbancha + New Orleans shirt supports the The Inter-Tribal Council of Louisiana (ITCLA). The Inter-Tribal Council of Louisiana (ITCLA) is a non-profit workforce development organization that provides comprehensive employment and training activities to Native American people living in Louisiana. ITCLA trainings, services and support make individuals more competitive in the workforce and promote economic and social development in accordance with the goals and values of their consortium member tribes. The 5 member tribes of ITCLA are the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, the United Houma Nation, the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians, and the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana.
